THE WORKERS OF IBIZA

IT WAS THAT TIME OF YEAR… WITH LESS THAN A MONTH LEFT ON THE WHITE ISLE, THE TIME HAD ARRIVED FOR THE WORKERS OF IBIZA TO BOOK THEIR FLIGHTS HOME AND COMPILE A BUCKET LIST OF THINGS TO DO AND EXPERIENCE BEFORE THEY PARTED WAYS WITH THE PARTY CAPITAL AFTER HAVING THE BEST SUMMER OF THEIR LIVES. AT THE VERY TOP OF MY LIST WAS MUSIC ON – WEEK 15. WHY WEEK 15 SPECIFICALLY YOU ASK? WELL, JAMIE JONES WAS IN MARCO CAROLA’S NECK OF THE WOODS OF COURSE.

A couple of weeks ago, Italian juggernaut Marco Carola, considered one of the very best of all-time by many, entered Jamie Jones territory as he graced the Terrace at DC10 for a slice of A Planet Called Paradise. With this Music On superstar at the helm, Wednesday night at the former aircraft hanger certainly was paradise. Now, it was Jamie Jones’ turn to repay the favour and tear down the Terrace at Amnesia IBIZA.

Considered possibly the most popular and energetic night on the entire island, Music On at Amnesia is a night of adventure and a journey of excitement for the most dedicated dance floor explorers known to mankind. Each week sees Carola and company welcome in special guests before the Italian stallion takes over at the helm from 4am until close. This usually includes a mammoth three-deck style of mixing set, a sun-kissed Terrace rammed to the brim with a Carola army that possessed no limits and of course a long queue of sweaty, tired clubbers patiently waiting for taxis to take them on to either their beds or the next party location.

Having not been Music On in my life up until Carl Cox blew the roof off of Amnesia just over one month ago by going back-to-back with Carola, I was left speechless and overjoyed by my first Friday night Amnesia dosage. Speechless because I couldn’t believe such a celebration could go on till that time of day and overjoyed because we had stayed until the very end when the music went off and the sun had came up. Therefore, having done it before, I was determined to do it again! IBIZA

As I mentioned previously, the Jamie Jones appearance at Music On was one I had been rubbing my hands in anticipation for for weeks on end, I couldn’t wait to get involved in the action and nothing was stopping me from carving up shapes for hours upon hours on end (not even the fact that myself and one other person that I knew had lasted the distance). Arriving just after 2am, we had timed our entry to perfection as we had waltzed on in just in time for Hot Creations label owner, Jamie Jones.

Having heard about Carola’s five star performance at A Planet Called Paradise a few weeks back, I couldn’t wait to see what Jamie Jones had lined up his sleeve – I just knew it was going to be as equally as good. Flirting with the minds of his thousands of loyal followers that were simply besotted by his presence alone, let alone his music, Jamie Jones had everyone’s hands and phones in the air as they waited for the drop. Penetrating the dance floor with lightning bolts of iconic, melodic beats of sensational, warm house music, all eyes and ears were on Jamie Jones and the struggle to find a comfortable place to rave in the Terrace was real – it was jam-packed but hey, the more the merrier I say.

Further names on the billing that I was keen on checking out were that of Miss Kittin and Oxia and having not been in the Main Room the last time I was at Music On, I was intrigued by how busy it would be in comparison to the Terrace, especially when Carola was in action. As we made our way through the door and into the Main Room, the tempo of the music has picked up and was a lot heavier. Always changing her music up to keep the crowd on their toes, they didn’t what to expect. She continued to surprise and impress with her incredible technical capabilities behind the decks. Her finger-trip trickery was on point and she nailed every track in her set.

She then engaged in a bit of back-to-back experimentation with French DJ and producer, Oxia, who had appeared on stage prior to her in the Main Room. Unfamiliar with Oxia, it didn’t late long for my ears to welcome in the Oxia sound with open arms. His daydreaming, smiling and feeling of escapism sound combined with a very unique, upbeat, personal sound produced by Miss Kittin made sure the Main Room was as full as it could possibly be making routes to desired dance floor locations similar to that of a never-ending maze, it was that busy.

Upon returning to the Terrace, my ear drums were met with sound waves with a hint of heaven, I’m speaking about Marco Carola of course. With revellers surging for a spot close to the DJ booth on the dance floor, the circular process of gradually getting moved further and further back until you made another DJ booth surge had begun, not that I minded this however. With strobe lights scattering throughout the terrace and the words Music On flashing behind him, Carola had the spotlight firmly on him and it remained with him until the music came to a halt towards the latter stages of Saturday morning.

Instrumental on the electronic scene and its development during the early 90’s, Marco Carola showed that there was nothing slowing him down in his path to further techno success during the year of 2015 with yet another titanic blockbuster set blowing minds away as far as the eye could see. When we eventually made our way to the front, I felt the skin on my very body vibrating due to the booming bonanza exploding out of the speakers in the Terrace.

Working the crowd subtly throughout the duration of his set, as per, Carola was well received by the Music On crowd at Amnesia. They screamed his name in delight and applauded him in appreciation. We even maximised the utilisation of the podium and joined several other Carola enthusiasts on there looking down on everyone else.

When the sun came up and 8am had struck, the views around the Terrace in Amnesia were simply breathtaking. Not breathtaking in a sense like Es Vedra Rock would but in a sense that I couldn’t believe so many people were still moving around so energetically, it was madness but at the same time it was admirable – from the rafters to the dance floor, Carola was the point of focus and his music was the whole reason everyone wasn’t in bed yet!

Constantly checking my watch to see what time it was, finally, the music went off and Carola’s set finale was greeted with a round of applause – thank you Marco!

Not returning home until just prior to lunch-time on Saturday, whilst many had started their day-time jobs, their grocery shopping or simply lapping up rays on the beach, I dived into the promised land (my bed) and drifted off into a heavenly sleep. If I had it my way, I wouldn’t wake up now until the Music On Closing Party but then again, I’m not at home, I’m in Ibiza – the one island that never sleeps. IBIZA
